Grady's story
Poor Grady has been through it in his short life!  This handsome and regal looking fellow was rescued from a campsite where he had been living for months.  He was a favorite among the locals but when one of our friends found him injured one day, she just knew that she needed to get him to rescue ASAP.  We are so grateful that she did because it was discovered that Grady was suffering from a severe infection from a gunshot to his leg.  In addition to his right leg being terribly swollen from an infected abscess, we also found out that he sustained a fracture to the humerus in his left leg from a bullet (picture attached).  Had he been left outside for a couple more days, he would have most certainly suffered and died from his wounds.  Grady went through several weeks of treatment including a procedure to drain the abscess, multiple antibiotics, fluids, pain medication and lots of good old TLC.  Fortunately, our efforts paid off and he has fully recovered from the infection.  His fracture has almost healed and has developed a callous of scar tissue around it, so we elected to not do surgery on it as there was no guarantee that it would fix it, plus he gets around pretty well overall.  He does have a slight limp, and he also sustained some relatively minor ligament damage to his wrist on the right leg from a bullet fragment, but our hope is that it heal with time.  To ensure that his joints and bones/muscles will stay healthy, we have been giving him a daily regime of Omega 3 fish oil and Glucosamine & Chondroitin in his food (both inexpensive) and he takes it like a champ.
Grady does not let his injuries get him down as he is such a sweet and affectionate boy!  Despite his large size, he's a gentle giant and just wants to be loved and cherished.  He does take some time to get to know and trust you, but who can fault him considering his experience with humans.  Once he's comfortable with you, he's a total love bug and just wants to nuzzle and cuddle.  He's quite the talker too and will chirp and meow at you when he wants attention.  He likes catnip toys but canned food and treats are his favorite things in the world!  Grady can be a bit hand-shy at times and does not like to be touched near his rear end.  He will let you know with vocal cues and a sometimes a gentle nip to stay away from that area.  It's quite possible that he was mistreated and abused at some point but we will never know for sure.  At any rate, please don't let that dissuade you... Grady is a wonderful and amazing cat with tons of love to give!  He really is a sweetheart and to be honest, I would love to adopt him but I'm already at my limit.  Grady does great with other cats once properly introduced, and even though he's larger than most cats, he's a big baby and can be easily bullied.  He does need to be in a home with older or no kids as young children may frighten him.
Grady is neutered, negative for FeLV/FIV, microchipped and current on vaccinations - DOB 1/1/15 (tag # 10903JB).
